The National Rugby Stadium in Bucharest, close to the Arch of Triumph, is in dire need of complete modernization. The proposed solution is an answer to the multiple challenges of its context: the limited buildable surface available, the regularization of an important intersection with the increase of the public space, the constraints imposed on the height and configuration of the building given its placement in a protected area and the infrastructural conditions of the site. We assumed the architectural direction of the Romanian Olympic Committee’s building, organizing a small hotel to accommodate the athletes. The non-constructible corner towards the Cașin monastery will be translucent, alternating the material panels with the immaterial ones. The shapes are precise, tranquil, and the colors are picked from the surroundings and remixed. The exterior image is assembled from protruding plans with parametric modulation. The spaces for athletes, officials, press and public are carefully sized and separated, thus resulting in a functional assembly, an urban, coherent stadium.
