How to make a building for cars, a large-capacity parking lot, in a protected central area, half on the street and half inside the central cemetery, also a historical monument? We answered these challenges by proposing a building between two worlds. For the outside, with congestion and the need for parking solutions, we chose the stone wall and the sloping roof. For the inside, we preferred camouflage, creating a kind of edge against the background of the tree-lined alleys. Have you ever seen a multi-story car park with a facade made of wooden elements? We developed the closure of the facade through parametric design to add dimension to the subtle movement that the tree crowns offer us when the wind blows. Towards the street, we clad the building with spaces for people, necessary and opportune in this place. The conception of the entire building started from the city, from the strong and very special context, towards function. The city imposed the presence of a parking lot in this space, to solve the acute needs of the pedestrian area in the vicinity. The street front provided us with a cornice and a roof plan to which we aligned ourselves. The gate of the Hajongard cemetery indicated the place of transition from one side to the other, of the dramatic change.
